The Road to Gettysburg

The Lotus Ltd. D.C. Chapter started their road to Gettysburg back in March, 2009. At LOG 29, we announced that Gettysburg, PA would be the address for LOG 30 on October 8 – 11, 2010.

In June, 1863, the Confederate and Union Armies started their journey to Gettysburg as they came from the south and crossed the Mason-Dixon line into Pennsylvania.  The armies converged from the east and the west at Gettysburg.  The three day battle that ensued from July 1 - 3, 1863, was not the largest battle of the Civil War, but historians regard it as the turning point of the war.

The towns in and around Gettysburg are filled with monuments to those who found their way there for that epic battle.  We too shall travel over many of those same roads as we journey to LOG next year.  Small towns, mountains, orchards and farmland provide a scenic backdrop as you drive the roads of the surrounding countryside.  For a faster pace, the track at Summit Point, WV will challenge your abilities.

Gettysburg preserves its history, yet still embraces the future without forgetting the past. We preserve the history of Lotus in all the stories and cars while embracing each new model that bears the name LOTUS.

The Eisenhower Inn will be the home of LOG 30. The hotel staff can take your reservations at 717-334-8121.  Website reservations are currently not yet available.  Start making your reservations now. There are two sections to the hotel.  Each has a different room rate.  Eisenhower II is the newest part of the hotel and offers more amenities.  Eisenhower I encompasses the atrium with the swimming pool.  Each room that faces the atrium has a deck area. A complete virtual tour is available on the hotel’s website.

Eisenhower I  - $99 per night + tax
Eisenhower II - $119 per night + tax

The Road to Gettysburg (Part 2)

The 30th Lotus Owners Gathering is now just under a year away.

The roads and battlefields of Gettysburg stretch out across a wide area of the countryside. In 1867 the 1st Minnesota Infantry placed a memorial urn on the battlefield. Minnesota was only one state that traveled the many roads that converged at Gettysburg. I pondered as to just how much of our country came to meet each other in a small town in Pennsylvania. My searches led me to find that thirty states were represented at Gettysburg. The soldiers that made up the two armies came from as far north as Maine, as far south as Florida, and as far west as Texas and Minnesota. Such a vast part of our country came to find itself focused in that small town in Pennsylvania.

Those who travel to LOG 30 will come from many of the same places and at times travel the same roads that brought their soldiers and such a large part of the USA to Gettysburg so long ago. Next October an even larger part of the USA and other countries will travel to the same place to unite in friendship and a common love of the Lotus marque.

The concourse will find your Lotus lost in “bear country” – specifically, Boyds Bear Country. The flagship store for Boyds Bears is a four-story barn with a silo that sits amid 130 acres. A perfect country setting surrounds the store with mountains for a backdrop. This is a favorite stop for many who visit Gettysburg. Are you not too sure what a Boyds’ Bear is? Well it is stuffed or made of resin. No matter its shape or size, it is a favorite collectable that warms the heart of many. Want more than bears? We asked if we could take a Lotus through the corn maze. Each year a new maze is grown to temp the wary. We guaranteed a new speed record with a Seven. Well, we are still asking. So much more than bears fills the four-story building and surrounds the site. Their website is www.boydsbearcountry.com

Gettysburg has more to offer than just a battlefield. Want to talk fast cars on dirt? The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing is just a short drive away. You may want to even visit the local wineries. Have you considered taking a spooky ghost tour through the streets of Gettysburg? Drive the battlefields or explore the roads that wind through the orchards and mountains. There is so much more to experience in Gettysburg than you have yet to realize.
